As I thought, you have the power of the Hero inside you.
– Princess Zelda
Being the hero is something we all get a chance to do when we play video games. In life, we do not always feel so heroic. But it does not have to be that way. Being a hero is about mindset, beliefs, behaviors, and actions.
Being a hero is not something that you must wait for, complete a degree to obtain, or have a certain type of job to receive. Being a hero is something we all can do. It’s not always glamorous, and it seldom receives the attention it should, but we can all be a hero to someone else.
The thing about true heroes, is they are selfless. There are a lot of things that you can do to be a hero, but ultimately, you must do something for someone else.
Speak up. Stand up.
Take action. Stand firm.
Being a hero is not easy and it probably will be uncomfortable. It can also be lonely at times. But in the end, it is worth it for the difference you will make in the world around you and in the lives of others.
Who will you be a hero for today?

Asteroids happens to be a video game that James Altucher (Choose Yourself) mentioned recently, so I can’t help but take up the challenge to discuss how his latest book The Rich Employee aligns with principles found in the video game Asteroids.
If you don’t already know who he is, James Altucher is basically the uncle or neighbor I’ve always wanted. He’s eccentric, honest, and redefines “Thinking outside of the box.” He also … Continue reading →

Video games often get a bad rap for being a waste of time, contributing to antisocial behavior, or even inspiring terrible violence. Often overlooked is their potential as an unrivaled source of learning and an untapped mechanism for teaching life principles.
In fact, I believe that many people who enjoy video games are routinely practicing desirable traits that can lead to real world success, if they are correctly applied. The one trait that is … Continue reading →

The video game Journey by ThatGameCompany is one of the most amazing video games that I have ever played… and you can trust me, I have played thousands of different video games.
At its heart, the video game is a metaphor for the Hero’s Journey framework that many narratives capture, both ancient and modern. The call to adventure, a challenge or ordeal, transformation, and the hero’s return. It’s the story of Homer’s Odyssey, Lord of the Rings, Star … Continue reading →
Back in my day, we used to have REAL gameplay… We didn’t have any of this fancy 3D stuff!

Dealing with change can be difficult. We prefer what is familiar over what is comfortable. and we prefer what is comfortable over what is better.
It is natural to resist change, especially if you do not understand why the change is happening or if the future seems uncertain.
But change is the new normal.
How will you deal with change as a leader, employee, spouse, or parent? When others are involved, our response to change has a ripple effect. As a leader, we can hold back an entire organization. As an employee, we can derail important initiatives at our organization, as a spouse we can frustrate and alienate our spouse, and as a parent we can exasperate our children.
Change is hard.
But it is required if we ever want to grow or become better.
You don’t become better at anything by staying the same.
“Looks like all the time spent playing video games has paid off.”
I miss fun movies like I miss arcades. Thankfully, Pixels has a healthy dose of fun, laughs, and arcade nostalgia. A perfect Summer movie it’s lighthearted, comical, and serves as a love letter to those of us who grew up when the latest game was in the arcade, and DLC was not even a glimmer in a developer’s eye.
