Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! was such a great game to play on the Nintendo Entertainment System.
It had all the right features: detailed graphics, exciting music, responsive controls, and memorable characters (Except the ones that I forgot in this head-to-head Video Game Trivia battle with Wired Editor Chris Kohler).
Best of all, this game is a ton of fun to play.
While still in our youth, my friend Derek McCloud and I played countless … Continue reading
I want you to imagine the following: You are in Fallout Shelter #139 and you will never make it out. There is a 9 year old who is also in the shelter with you who will be put into cryostasis, and they will survive to live as an adult in a world where almost everything is the same as it is today (as opposed to the post-apocalyptic wasteland found in Fallout 4, by Bethesda Game … Continue reading

The video game Journey from Thatgamecompany was released with the support of Sony Santa Monica. It has quickly become one of my favorite games.
Journey is an interactive parable, an anonymous online adventure to experience a person’s life passage and their intersections with other’s.
While in the desert area of Journey, I encountered another player. I watched as they ran off, and the speed and intention … Continue reading
I’ve got all the time in the world…
– Popful Mail
Time is funny – it spends itself, regardless if you plan to use it or not. So how are you using your time?
Are you always in a hurry, or do you have a sense of ease?
When is the last time that you thought to yourself “I have all the time in the world?”
I personally can’t remember thinking a thought along those lines in over five years.
Then again, maybe you are waiting. Feeling stuck. If that is you, then here is what you can do in the meantime.

Time flows like a river and history repeats…
Perhaps you have heard the saying “there is nothing new under the sun.”
While it seems that the next “new thing” is on everyone’s mind, it is funny how often we are just excited about another way of expressing something that is already in existence.
Life is seasonal. There are the seasons where we spend time planting – working hard, hustling to make our dreams become a reality – but then we experience hot summers or cold winter where the harvest feels so far away.
Where ever you find yourself today, remember that it is only a season.
If it is a good time, then enjoy it, but prepare and save for difficult times.
If you are in a hard season, take comfort in knowing that things may soon change, and the sun will shine again, bringing with it Spring and new life.
What season are you in now? How are you making the most of it?

“Nobody knows what’s gonna happen at the end of the line, so you might as well enjoy the trip.”
– Manuel Calavera
One of the greatest point and click adventure games ever made has been remastered and just released yesterday for the PC and PS4/Vita. I have a soft spot for this type of game, going back to Maniac Mansion and Space Quest (and Kings Quest, and Police Quest, of course).
This quote is a particularly colorful take on “enjoying the journey of life.” I know it is easy to get caught up in our own goals, but we need to remember to slow down and enjoy the time spent along the way. This moment is one of a kind, and we are not promised tomorrow. We can all benefit from taking a moment to appreciate the present.
Maybe you find yourself impatient, wondering what to do while you are waiting for that next big event in life. I’ve found that I only feel frustrated or depressed if I focus too much on the future.
Live in the moment, and do those things that you can only do today. One day, you will look back and be glad that you did.

2015 is my year. It’s actually your year as well (in case you don’t know).
It’s time to ship.
Earlier this year I participated in Chris Brogan’s My 3 Word exercise, where participants choose three words to define their year. My words for 2015 are Share, Shift, and Ship.
Anything sound familiar about word #3?
